Can a homeowner finance their share of a storm claim?

Yes, where a program allows. The deductible is the homeowner’s to pay, and you can’t waive or cover it, but paying it over time to a lender isn’t a waiver. The share often grows with upgrades, unmatched walls or depreciation held back until the work is done, so one branded application can cover it.

  • Wind and hail are the most frequent home claims, averaging $14,747.
  • Insurance paid 18% of spending on exterior replacements in 2023.
  • New York bars siding contractors from paying or rebating a deductible, even as a discount.
  • Texas accepts financing that pays the full deductible over time as proof it was paid.

What does new siding cost in 2026?

Cost-guide averages for a whole house run $12,000 to $19,000: vinyl around $12,000, fiber cement around $15,000, more for premium products or larger homes. A premium fiber cement job cost $21,485 at contractor rates in 2025. The $8,346 national average includes partial and DIY jobs, so quote the real scope.

  • Fiber cement recouped about 113.7% at resale in 2025 and vinyl 96.5%; values change yearly.
  • Producer prices at fiber cement and vinyl product makers rose 9.6% and 4.9% in a year.
  • Pages still promising a federal siding credit for 2026 are out of date.

Cancel rights apply at the kitchen table

Does the 3-day right to cancel apply to a siding sale at the kitchen table?

Yes. The FTC’s Cooling-Off Rule covers in-home sales of $25 or more, even booked appointments, and the rep must explain it out loud. Several states add more, such as 5 business days for Californians 65 and up. Quote the same price whether the homeowner pays cash or finances, and order materials after the window closes.

  • Illinois gives buyers 65 and up 15 business days when the seller came uninvited.
  • No “tonight only” price that disappears if the homeowner cancels.
  • Beyond the down payment, California bars collecting ahead of the work, even from a lender.

What changes when we re-side a pre-1978 home?

Lead-safe rules apply when you disturb more than 20 square feet of painted exterior, with containment and a visual inspection at the end. Old cement siding may contain asbestos, so test before tear-off. And rot under the old siding is common: write a change order before the extra work and update the amount with the lender.

  • EPA lead-rule penalties run up to $49,772 per violation.
  • The federal asbestos rule generally exempts single-family homes; OSHA crew rules still apply.
  • Put testing, disposal and sheathing allowances on the estimate.
  • The dashboard shows each job’s next funding step.

Siding financing questions, answered.

A siding project manager and a homeowner look over the financing options on a tablet in front of his newly re-sided ranch house.

How do siding contractors offer financing to customers?

At the kitchen table or alongside an insurance claim, once the price is set, including upgrades such as vinyl to fiber cement. With Ottri, the rep texts or shows one application with your company’s name on it; participating lenders take it one at a time, and on eligible programs the lender deposits the money with you. Ottri adds no fee. Owners spent $9.4 billion on siding in 2023.

Can a homeowner finance their share of a storm claim, including the deductible?

Yes, where a program allows. The deductible belongs to the homeowner, and many states bar contractors from paying, waiving or advertising to cover it, but paying it over time to a lender isn’t a waiver. Texas lists a financing agreement as proof the deductible was paid. Never imply the insurer pays it.

Does the insurer have to replace siding on undamaged walls?

Only where state rules or the policy require it. Iowa uses a line-of-sight standard, Kentucky and Ohio require a uniform or comparable appearance, and Florida sets its own matching rule; Minnesota has no matching statute. The policy and the insurer decide, so never promise a full re-side.

Is there a tax credit for new or insulated siding in 2026?

No. The federal energy credit ended for installations after December 31, 2025, and siding counted only as insulation before then. Some state and utility programs exist, so check locally, and don’t make energy-savings claims without evidence.

Can siding, roofing and windows go on one application?

Yes, when they’re one contracted job priced together and within each program’s limits. Many storm jobs pair siding with a new roof; put both in one estimate, and each lender confirms the amount against your scope.

Is fiber cement worth it at resale?

Cost vs Value 2025 estimated fiber cement siding recouped about 113.7% of its cost at resale and vinyl 96.5%, but the figures change by year and region, and they’re estimates, not returns. Sell durability and looks, and let the homeowner choose.

What happens if the first lender declines a re-side?

It moves to the next eligible lender with the same information, so the homeowner doesn’t fill anything out twice, and they see whether a step is a soft or hard credit check before continuing. Each lender makes its own call. If the full amount isn’t approved, phase the gutters or trim, or let the homeowner cover part another way.

What do I need to sign up?

Create the account online, then upload your company information and EIN, contractor license, insurance certificate, a sample siding contract, the owner’s ID and your deposit account. Ottri has no volume minimum. Lenders review your company one by one, each with its own requirements, such as how long you’ve been in business.

Who approves the financing and sends the funds?

Each participating lender reviews the application, decides and sets the terms. On eligible programs it pays your company directly, usually after the homeowner confirms the job is complete; some programs pay at signing. Ottri Global LLC is a licensed loan broker, NMLS 2776988, and is not a lender.

What if we find rot or asbestos siding during tear-off?

Stop and write a change order before the extra work, then update the financed amount with the lender. Older cement siding may contain asbestos: test it and follow OSHA wet-removal practices. In pre-1978 homes, disturbing more than 20 square feet of paint also triggers the lead-safe rules.
