Phases follow your build schedule, not the homeowner’s savings.

Can the homeowner finance the whole design instead of phase one?

Yes, within each program’s limits. Price the full plan once, sign one contract with a written phase schedule, and let the phases follow your crew’s calendar rather than the homeowner’s savings. If the first lender won’t cover the whole design, the application moves on to the next eligible lender with no new paperwork.

  • Maximums differ by lender, so a big design may fit some programs, not all.

What does landscaping cost in 2026?

Stacked from cost guides, a full backyard design-build comes to roughly $15,000 to $60,000: a patio at $3,800 to $10,500, irrigation at $3,000 to $10,000 and lighting at $800 to $6,800, plus design, walls and plantings. Guides disagree, sometimes on the same page, so date every number and quote the real scope.

  • Realtors put recovery on four common installs at 59% to 100%; make no value claims.
  • Labor is about 80% of a typical landscaping bill, so wages move prices more than stone or pipe.
  • One cost guide lists two sprinkler prices on the same page; quote your own.

Approval comes before demolition

Can homeowners use a turf rebate toward the project?

Yes, but the rebate is theirs and it comes later. Most programs require approval before any grass comes out and pay after an inspection, often weeks later or as a bill credit. Price the job at full cost and finance the full cost; don’t net the rebate out of the payment. Design to the program’s rules from the start.

  • Southern California pays $2 a square foot and excludes artificial turf.
  • Las Vegas pays per square foot, but only with a permanent conservation easement.
  • California, Florida and Texas limit HOA bans on water-wise yards.
  • Rebates are capped and funds can run out mid-season; never promise an amount.

When does a landscaper get paid on a financed install?

Usually once, at completion. Most programs on the Ottri network pay your firm when the homeowner signs off on the finished job; some pay at signing. On a phased design, you carry the early phases until the last one is done, so build them back to back, and keep plant and stone deposits within your state’s limits.

  • In California, the down payment can’t exceed $1,000 or 10%, whichever is less.
  • Beyond the down payment, California bars collecting ahead of the work, even from a lender.
  • Maryland caps deposits at one-third; Pennsylvania does over $5,000.
  • Financing covers installs; maintenance contracts stay separate.

Landscaping financing questions, answered.

A landscape designer shows a homeowner couple the financing options on a tablet beside a new stone path through drought-tolerant plantings.

How do landscapers offer financing to customers?

Landscapers that offer financing usually bring it up at the design presentation, once the plan and price are set. With Ottri, the designer sends one branded application with the plan email or by QR code on the proposal; participating lenders review it one at a time, and eligible programs pay your firm directly. Ottri charges your business nothing.

Can one application cover the patio, plantings, irrigation, drainage and lighting?

Yes, within each program’s limits, if it’s one contracted design priced once; each lender checks the scope and the amount. Put the phases on the build schedule in writing, and if the design changes after approval, sign a change order and let the lender review the new amount.

Will an approval from a winter design meeting last until the spring install?

Not always. Approvals expire on each lender’s own schedule, so a design approved in January may not still be approved when the crew starts in April. Before the homeowner accepts, check how long the offer lasts and date your quote; if it lapses, they can apply again for the same design, which may mean another credit check.

Does artificial turf qualify for water rebates?

It depends on the utility. Southern California’s program excludes it, Las Vegas accepts permeable turf only with 50% plant cover, and Scottsdale allows a limited area. Check the current rules before you design.

How much deposit can we take for plants and stone?

State law sets the limit. California: $1,000 or 10%, whichever is less, with no special-order exception and nothing ahead of the work, even from a lender. Florida: permit and start deadlines above 10%. Maryland: one-third; Pennsylvania: one-third over $5,000, plus special-order materials. New York: escrow or a bond.

Do retaining walls or grading need permits?

Often. Retaining walls over 4 feet, measured from the bottom of the footing, or any wall holding back a slope, driveway or structure, generally need a permit and sometimes engineering. Grading often needs a permit too. Call 811 a few business days before any digging, planting included; in Texas, irrigation work needs a state irrigator license.

What happens if the first lender declines?

The application moves to the next eligible lender, and that lender decides for itself. If the full design isn’t approved, you can build the first phase now and the rest later, or the homeowner can cover part another way.

What do I need to sign up?

Open an account online, then upload your EIN, business details, contractor or landscape license, insurance certificate, a sample install contract, the owner’s ID and your deposit account. Joining has no minimum; lenders then apply their own requirements, such as how long you’ve operated.

Who approves the financing and sends the funds?

The lender that approves the application sets the terms and, on eligible programs, pays your firm directly. Ottri Global LLC is a licensed loan broker, NMLS 2776988, and is not a lender.

Can we tell homeowners landscaping adds 15% to their home value?

No. In NAR’s 2023 survey, Realtors estimated cost recovered at 59% for lighting, 83% for irrigation, 95% for a patio and 100% for a landscape upgrade, and those are opinions, not sales data. Sell how the yard will be used.
